1st things first. In general Irish People are not renound for being strong triathletes. This was turned on its head in Athlone this year. Brian Keane won the Elite race and got a 1st place podium for Ireland. Aileen Morrisson came in 2nd in the women's race. I think everyone involved in triathlon in Ireland should be very proud and shout loudly about their achievement.
This was a European Cup race, with top European Athletes and the Irish came out on top.
Also we have a junior champion in the Limerick Tri Club. Well done Mike Ylverton, serious result. Keep up the good work. Normally older people are meant to inspire you but in this case Mike, you have to pass on some tips to all in the club.
Myself and my buddy Alan cruised up on the boat to Athlone for the race. Waterways Ireland would be proud, we use their rivers, use their locks and do their race! In my opinion its the only way to get to a triathlon. :-)
OK result. I came in at 1:16:21 and considering the transition area was about 1K from the swim exit, its not a bad result. Awful swim for me, I used it to get rid of the hangover from the night before, didn't really find my legs on the bike until the final third of the ride, ran very comfortably, and I should in hindsight ...... firstly not have had the pints the night before and 2nd pushed myself harder on the run.
Overall 139 / Swim 0:12:25 / T1 4:13 / Bike 0:37:19 / T2 4:02 / Run 0:18:24 / 1:16:21
How many laps do we run I hear you all shout, 1, 3, 6, 7, 2. Organisers need to sort this out as there are some incredible run times. Some factual and some not, I know I got my mileage done correctly........ did U ?
